the run down front in the march sun
while thinking about whether or not we wanted the house, we decided to see what kind of loan we could get IF we did want the house. i did some more research online about assistance in down payments and living in rural areas.with that info, we planned to go to his bank and see about a first time home buyer’s loan and the different assistance we can get in conjunction.
we went to his bank to get a loan. his bank is wonderful and totally amazing, except for one fellow there. as soon as we sat down to wait for a loan officer, we saw the guy and steven goes “oh please no…” and yep, that is who was taking our case. we’ll spare the fellow’s name but he wasn’t helpful in the least, didn’t really look up much of steven’s information and suggested we go someplace else. this is the same response steven got the last time he had an interaction with the guy and it gets him really angry. when steven was last looking for a loan, it was to purchase a newer car. he got this fellow, left the office mad and then came back later and talked to another guy who praised steven for his good credit and said his bank is more than happy to give a loan to a responsible and trustworthy fellow. seeing as we got the guy that ticks steven off, i had to calm down my sweety when we got in the car and discussed our options. we headed off to talk to a lady The Agent had suggested.
we head over to bb&t and the lady sees us to talk about his money matters from the past, present, and future. his standing at work, if we’re going to live there and a million more personal questions that are linked to money. she looks up his info, get a credit report and is blown away. she more than happy to offer him a loan with her bank. with only doing quick figuring she gives us a number around 7% interest. -we- are blown away. she tells us she’ll do more figuring and get back to us and also gave us some homework to do with his end of stuff.
it was only a few days of contemplating when we got a phone call from The Agent, Polly Leadbetter. she informed us that that morning 3 more people were shown the house and if we wanted to put a bid in, now is the time. that is also when we were informed that the cost of the house dropped 10k the week before and that is why there is suddenly so much interest in it now.
biting my lip i hung up the phone and told steven that if we wanted the house, we had to act now. we needed to pull AT LEAST 500$ out of the air as a good faith down payment along with a bid.
steven hates asking for money. ever. at all. he’s a very proud fellow who feels that he should be abl eto take care of himself and never ever need help from anybody and he usually doesn’t need any help, but he did just do his taxes and he does know how much he has coming to him soon. we borrowed the money from his grandmother with promise to pay it off ASAP and wrote up the bid on his counter at work.
our hands were shaking when The Agent left with both the bid and the check. our future was changing oh so fast.
did i mention that all of this is happening in less than a week’s time?
